Braves Overcome the Warriors

LA PUENTE, CA — On Thursday, March 9, Baldwin Park’s Varsity Badminton team defeated the La Puente Warriors on Brave territory in a nearly clean sweep victory of 19-2.

“We did it last year! We can do it again this year!” encouraged senior Kevin Chua when asked about whether he thinks the team would win against the Warriors.

Before the games began, due to absence of some members of the La Puente team, the Warriors had to forfeit 6 games that gave the Braves their first 6 points of the game.

The Braves dominated in mixed doubles. All teams, Mixed Doubles 1 (Kevin Chua and Michelle Del Toro), Mixed Doubles 2 (Jialou Chen and Sharon Tran), and Mixed Doubles 3 (Alan Le and Tuyen Ho) won all of their games, earning 5 more points for the Braves.

For boys’ doubles, the Warriors did not have a Boys’ Doubles 2 team, so the Braves’ boys’ doubles team each only faced one team. In this case, both Braves Boys’ Doubles 1 (Chua and Chen) and Boys’ Doubles 2 (Le and Christopher Lazo) won their games, winning 2 more points for Baldwin Park.

Baldwin Park’s girls’ doubles teams also found themselves in similar circumstances. Both Girls’ Doubles 1 (Del Toro and Cindy Nguyen) and Girls’ Doubles 2 (Tiffany Yu and Shwe Nemyo) won their games and put 2 more points on the Braves’ score.

However, Braves boys’ singles did not perform as well in this competition. Both Boys’ Singles 1 (Bai Rong Lin) and Boys’ Singles 2 (Gabriel Musni) each only won one of their games. Their victories earned 2 more points for the Braves.

Girls’ singles swept the Warriors away during this game. On this day, the lineup was altered so that newcomer Sophia Nguyen could have a chance to play in a varsity spot as Girls’ Singles 2. Both S. Nguyen and Girls’ Singles 1 (Lena Do) won both of their games and earned a final two points for the Braves. Their wins brought the final score to 19-2, the Braves’ victory.

“Today our Braves badminton team came out prepared!” expressed junior C. Nguyen. “We have yet to show our best potential and will be ready to win more league matches.”

Just share it.
