Braves Scratched by Wildcats

BALDWIN PARK,CA- On Tuesday, October 11, the Lady Braves Varsity Tennis team competed against the Wilson Wildcats on the Baldwin Park High School tennis courts and lost 18-0 .

This game was a bit out of the ordinary because Wilson High school wanted to jump right into the games and skip the introduction of players, which ended the game around 30 minutes earlier than usual. Varsity captain Fernanda Garcia did not play because of a bad knee, but JV player Marie Gonzales filled the extra singles spot.

The whole Baldwin Park High School tennis team started by getting bageled in the first round of matches with Katelyn Godinez filling the varsity Singles #1 spot for the first time. The Braves managed to keep smiling and got along very well with the Wildcats.

Most of the doubles also got bageled in the first round with the exception of Guadalupe Toscano and Damaris de La Vega who lost 6-2 against Wilson’s Doubles 1.

guadalupeThe second sets, unfortunately, had the same results, but players like Kandyce Lance were seen trying their best and coming close at the end of almost every game, with scores like 40-30. The other players also tried their hardest. Doubles #2 player Kathy Arroyo said, “Despite the score, my partner Alexis and I played at our best not losing confidence.”

The third set also had disappointing results as Toscano and De la Vega were the only doubles to get points and Godinez was the only singles to get a point. Toscano and De la Vega were actually very close to winning the third set by a score of 6-4.Guadalupe Toscano said “ My partner and I played our hearts out on the court which led us to get a win on our third set.”

Coach Torres explained, “We started a bit sluggish, but girls picked up their pace and got positive results.” The varsity girls lost the match 18-0 and it was greatly upsetting to them as many shared their thoughts on the loss. Alexis Preciado said “My partner and I, specifically I, tried our hardest to defeat Wilson, although we came close we did not succeed.”
