Volunteering with Shwe Nemyo

BALDWIN PARK, CA– Many may know about Key Club, but unless you’re in the club you may not know about the bubbly and spirited Key Club president, Shwe Nemyo. She is currently a senior at Baldwin Park High School and the Key Club president for the 2016-2017 school year.

In her own words, she described what Key Club is all about.“Key Club is basically a student-led organization that encourages leadership through volunteering. We encompass all values of leadership, character-shwe3building, inclusiveness, and caring.”

Some things that her job as president require are: making sure the club runs smoothly, planning and organizing events, and leading the meetings held during both lunches.

Key Club is not just about volunteering. It’s a club for building friendships and memories with those who you volunteer with. Shwe put it best in her own

words, when she said, “The people in Key Club just make volunteering more fun. We don’t do service for the reward, it’s all about the experience.”There are many events done every year and Shwe has been a part of almost all of them; that makes it very difficult for her to choose her favorite.

When asked about her favorite event, she described how some of her best memories come from a few events, but now it is the small things like picking up trash at the park and making pinwheels that really make her day.

Although she does not have a favorite event, she definitely looks forward to the Fall Rally held at Six Flags which she is about to attend for the third time. Fall Rally is an event where members from Key Clubs in Southern California, Nevada, and Hawaii attend in order to raise money for PTP (pediatric trauma program) and in the process enjoy the day at Six Flags and have a spirit battle against other clubs.

Shwe’s main goal is to keep members active throughout the whole school year and to include members in everything they do. She says, “Our club this year will do the best we can to make sure all members have fun.”
