Braves Outrun by the Jaguars


BALDWIN PARK, CA — On Friday September 23, Braves Varsity Football lost against the South East Jaguars on home territory, 40-26.

“I feel like we are going to do great against South East after last week’s double OT win,” expressed quarterback Jacob Robles prior to game day.

The Braves fell behind early as the Jaguars scored on their opening possession, however, the Braves’ defense blocked the Jaguar’s PAT. The Braves answered fast, as Robles ran in for a touchdown, putting the Braves in the lead, 7-6. The Braves forced a fumble and recovered the ball to give the their offense great field position. The Braves took advantage of the field position as Robles connected with Vargas for a touchdown pass, ending the quarter with a lead for the Braves, 13-6.

In the second quarter, the Braves’ defense couldn’t stop the Jaguars as they scored another touchdown, bringing the score to 13-12. Braves’ offense answered back as they drove the ball down the field and Flores finished with a rushing touchdown. Shortly after, the Jaguars offense tied up the game, 19-19. The last drive before half, the Braves offense led another successful drive as Robles and Vargas connected again for their second touchdown pass. This allowed the Braves to go into halftime with the lead, 26-19.

The third quarter was a defensive battle that didn’t see its first touchdown until the end of the quarter by the Jaguars, which brought the score to a tie ofimg_6580 26-26.

The final quarter started with a touchdown by the Jaguars, which placed them in the lead with a score of 34-26. The Jaguars continued to strengthen their lead with another touchdown that brought the score to 40-26.

“In the beginning, I thought we were going to win,” said spectator Leanne Do. “Their [the Braves’] defense wasn’t the best it could’ve been. I didn’t think we were going to lose.”
