Leslie Jones harrassed online

On July 19, Actress and SNL comedian Leslie Jones left twitter due to all of the online abuse she was receiving for her recent movie Ghostbusters.

Leslie Jones, 39-year-old sketch actor for Saturday Night Live, has been in her recent movie Ghostbusters, the remake. That movie did not do very well, just like most remakes, but this one was hated by many people, mainly because the movie had a lot of feminism and wasn’t very funny at all according to some people. Leslie Jones was attacked the most out of all of the actors in that movie.

The location of her online abuse was on the social media platform Twitter. Her Twitter handle is @Lesdoggg and if you were to go on her Twitter feed it would be filled with hate comments about her that attacked her gender, race, and personality. Milo Yiannopoulos was one of the Twitter users who was sending hate comments to Leslie, either calling her a “black dude or an “ape”. Jones reported Milo to Twitter and Twitter permanently suspended his account and replied saying, “no one deserves to be subjected to targeted abuse online … We will continue to take action against accounts that are reported to us and which clearly violate our rules.”

Leslie Jones left Twitter on the 18th of July stating, “I leave Twitter tonight with tears and a very sad heart. All this cause I did a movie. You can hate the movie but the **** I got today…wrong.” Jones returned shortly, only 5 days after she left Twitter. She blocked all of the haters and reported them to Twitter, who only recently started to suspend their accounts in early October. The online racism and harassment may never cease to exist, but Leslie Jones’s situation has brought a good deal of attention to it which is helping it diminish.

Just share it.
