Losing on SV’s Courts

BALDWIN PARK- On Thursday, September 1, Baldwin Park High School’s Varsity tennis team took on their cross town rival, Sierra Vista on the Sierra Vista courts. Although our Lady Braves lost this match, this game proved to be quite the nail-biter.

The team captain Fernanda Garcia said, “The loss shook our confidence as a team.”

The BPHS girls started off rocky, finishing up the first singles and doubles sets with only one win and five losses. Returner Guadalupe Toscano and new player Damaris De la Vega won against SV’s second doubles team Yareli and Tam, 6-1.

The third round proved to be the most exciting with another tie breaker win by second singles Katelynn Godinez of 7-5 and Jessyca Gonzalez’s first win of 6-4. Godinez’s set started off great with score of 4-1; however, her SV opponent caught up and set the score to 4-4 and then again at 5-5. A tie-breaker was then inevitable and a line judge was called to ensure that all line calls that accurate.photo1

Toscano and De la Vega unfortunately did not get the triple win, losing 5-2.

Jessyca Gonzalez started off with a lead of 4-0, but then allowed her opponent to catch up 4-4. She gathered all the strength she had and  managed to beat her opponent, 6-4.

At the end of the match, Baldwin Park won 4 sets but lost 14. Although there is room for improvement, there is also so much potential.

Just share it.
