Braves Conquer the Olympians

BALDWIN PARK, CA– On September 6 the Baldwin Park High School girls varsity tennis team faced the Basset Olympians for the first time at the Baldwin Park High School tennis courts and won 14-4.

Team captain Fernanda Garcia won all three sets with ease, with only one of her three opponents able to score a point on her. When asked how she thought she played despite her hip injury, Fernanda replied, “I did pretty good but could have bagled her.”

The other Braves single players, Jessica Gonzales and Katelynn Godinez, also did great by winning 5 out of 6 matches all together. Jessica won all her games, just like Fernanda using of her speed, skill, and power.

The Braves doubles team also did great against the Olympians. Doubles two, Guadalupe Toscano and Damaris De La Vega, won their first game with a clean sweep of 6-0. They lost their second set, but won their third set. The other double teams also did great, winning 2  out of 3 sets, which is incredibly good. The Braves made some good serves used their speed and that’s what gave them the advantage over Bassett.Fernanda Garcia

Coach Torres commented,”Girls had a good performance, they entered the game with confidence and that improved with each game played.” He further said, ” They have been learning from their mistakes and improving individually and as a team.  This really showed on the courts due to the fact that the single players were playing good on their own and the doubles players were playing good as a team.” Team chemistry is growing with each game and the girls are excited as the season continues. The Braves and the Olympians fought their hardest, but the Braves fought harder winning 14-4.
