Braves Cut It Close

BALDWIN PARK– On April 20, Baldwin Park’s Varsity baseball team was able to restrain Azusa from their last-inning rally, beating the Azusa Aztecs with a score of 6-4.

The first three innings were uneventful as both BP and Azusa attempted to make runs to no avail. During the fourth inning the Braves’ offense heated up by scoring 3 runs. It began with a single by Christian Cruz and thus, the anticipation for an RBI began. Afterwards Andrew Barboza was walked and Ismael Cueva hit a single. Unfortunately, Christian Cruz was out at third by fielder’s choice. With one out and two on base, Freddy Quintana stepped up to the plate and brought his teammates in. Not only did Freddy Quintana bring in two people with his at-bat, but he also successfully stole home on a wild pitch, which brought the score to 3-0 for the Braves. After the eventful runs brought in for the Braves, they were unable to score for the rest of the inning. It was the bottom of the 4th and the Braves had a comfortable lead of 3-0.

During the bottom of the fifth inning, the Braves were able to score a run, making the score 4-0. This run was made by none other than Francisco Ruiz. Soon after this run, the Braves kept it coming with another one. The follow-up run was made by Jimmy Castro resulting in a score of 5-0. At this point in the game, things were looking great for the Braves.

During the whole sixth inning the Braves did an excellent job at keeping the Azusa Aztecs at bay. Although at the top of the seventh inning, when it seemed certain that the Braves would defend their territory, the Aztecs were able to score three runs in a short amount of time. The first run was made by Jimmy Castro, shortly after three other Aztecs were able to score. Thankfully, the Braves made the third out shortly after these runs, making the final score  6-4, a victory for the Braves.
