COVINA, CA —- On Saturday April 2nd, the members of the Track & Field team competed at the 25th Annual Covina Invitational at the Covina Valley District Field, their new permanent home. Savannah Butler won both the 100m and 200m races and was nominated for Athlete of the Meet.

“My goal, well obviously stay under 26, get into 25s. Definitely trying to get lower,” commented Butler in reference to the 200m. “I’m trying to run like sub-12 so that’s my goal,” she added referring to the 100m.

The boys frosh/soph 1600m race saw Luis Cabrera come within a half second of breaking the 5-minute barrier with a time of 5:00.32. Jesus Holguin finished a few places behind Cabrera at 5:08.15. Freshman Jose Polanco finished at 5:12.46.

On the girls’ side, sophomore Dyanne Contreras crossed the line at 5:47.72, followed by Brianna Lopez at 6:23.28.

Briana Ibarra clocked in at 22.12 for the 100m hurdles, with Katelyn Godinez finishing at 22.63. Her older brother, Jacob Godinez, finished the 110m hurdles at 20.29.

For the 400m dash, Jonathan Moran came in at 1:01.49 while Katherine Lombard recorded a 1:06.64 finish.

Brandon Chou ran a speedy 12.25 for the 100m dash and won his heat. Teammate Andrew Aguirre clocked in at 13.35. For the Varisty 100m dash, Luis Flores finished with a time of 12.03 and Miguel Castaneda finished at 12.23.

Savannah Butler recorded the fastest time of the day for the girls Varsity 100m with a time of 12.59.  A few heats later, Samantha Ma finished the race at 14.32.

Adonay Cortez recorded a personal best on the 800m dash, clocking in at 2:11.90. He was followed by fellow sophomore Jesus Holguin at 2:15.32. In the following heat, Jese Aguilar came in at 2:25.26.

Victor Montes, continues to show progress in his return to running after an absence from the cross country team. He finished at 2:09.84, just a few seconds away from his personal best of 2:06. Erik Flores followed him at 2:15.22. Sophomore Melissa Leos ran the 800m in 3:05.09.

For the 300m Hurdles, Brianna Ibarra recorded a time of 1:02.94, while Jacob Godinez finished at 47.20.

Jesus Aguilar ran the 200m dash in 25.43. Savannah Butler destroyed the competition in the 200m while earning a personal best of 25.88.

Luis Cabrera finished the 3200m race at 11:15.70, 30 seconds faster than teammate Eduardo Castillo, who finished at 11:47.20.

Dyanne Contreras, who was the girls’ cross country team’s MVP, finished the 3200 at 13:10.02.

Jose Campos cross the line for the Varsity 3200m at 11:05.93.

The girls’ Varisty 1600m relay team recorded a 4:45.99 finish.

In the field events, Lizette Gomez ended the day with a 4-00.00 high jump, 10-09.00 long jump, and 24-11.50 triple jump. Leanne Do recorded a 10-11.75 long jump and 24-11.50 triple jump. Maryah Quiroz ended with a 13-05.50 long jump. Johnathan Moran recorded 14-07.25 in the long jump.
