CIF: Lady Braves couldn’t pass Buckley

SHERMAN OAKS, CA — On Tuesday, February 16th, the Baldwin Park High School Girls’ Varsity Soccer team played their first CIF game against Buckley School. Though both teams began the game with good defense, Buckley was the first to score in the first half, making the score 1-0. Shortly after, Buckley attempted another goal but was stopped by the Lady Braves, which kept the score the same. Later in the half there was a foul on Buckley’s Annie Mannela and she was able to score, which made the score 2-0.  Towards the end of the first half of the game, Allison Pimentel was able to score a goal, which cut Buckley’s lead in half and gave the Lady Braves hope to come back and win this game. At halftime, the score was 2-1, with Buckley in the lead.

Into the second half, Buckley was able to score another goal due to their quick offense past the Braves, the score was then 3-1. Throughout the many pauses of this game due to players getting hurt, the most nerve racking incident was when two players from each team ran into each other and were taken out of the game. Safia Smith from Buckley was taken out of the game and was replaced by Haley Ryan, one who could still keep a strong defense, not allowing the Braves to score. In the beginning of the second half the Lady Braves were able to score another goal when their offense and communication improved, making the score 3-2. Staying strong til the end, our Lady Braves were unable to tie the game for another chance to go to the next round of CIF and the final score was 3-2, Buckley.

Just share it.
