DUARTE, CA- The Baldwin Park Boys Varsity Basketball team took on the Duarte Falcons on January 27th at Duarte High School, and won with a score of 64-51.

Isaiah Delgado commented, “I felt we came out a little slow, but then we picked it up and got the win.”

The game started off badly for the Braves, as the Falcons seemed to be scoring all the points. It was looking like the first quarter was going to end with the Falcons having more than twice of the Braves’ points. William Trinidad managed to score a last minute three pointer right at the buzzer, leaving the score 20-10, with the Braves trailing. In the second quarter the Braves picked up momentum as they sought to catch up to the Falcons. The Braves were trailing the Falcons with a score of 33-27 at halftime.

Coming back with confidence, the team continued to press on with their offense. Everyone on the team was contributing towards their score as both Jose Castaneada and Fernando Carillo made three point field goals. David Brizuela, Timothy Lam, Chris Giron, and William Trinidad also added to the team’s score as they each scored two points. Thanks to a combined team effort the Braves surpassed the Falcon’s at the end of the third quarter, making the score 41-38, in the Braves’ favor.

However, the Falcons had not given up either, and began their offensive attack throughout the final quarter. As the game was coming to a close, the Braves continued to shine as they made point after point. The highlight of the game was when Isaiah Delgado, moments after he was put in, scored two back to back three point field goals in two of the best moments of the game. In the end, the Braves were the clear victors of the match. With a final score of 64-51, the Braves left Falcon territory with high spirits.

When asked about his thoughts on the team’s efforts, Chris Giron stated, “It was sloppy, we started off bad. We came back though and had a great comeback”.
