Braves Can’t Sail Past the Vikings

On January 6th, the Varsity Boys Basketball team (6-7) took on the Blair Vikings (11-2) in a non-league match at home, and fell, with a score of 75-65.

The first quarter opened up with much excitement from the teams, both trying to prove themselves, and improve their records. After the tip off, it was a steady quarter with the Braves managing to take an 18-15 lead over the Vikings. However, in the second quarter, Blair’s players began to shine when the Braves left many deep threes uncontested.

Head Coach Israel Anguiano had to say, “They got on a hot streak…They hit a couple deep threes, so we weren’t expecting them to just kinda pull up as quick as they did…It was a gamble for them and it paid off.”

Blair outscored Baldwin Park 23-11 in the second quarter, ending with a score of 38-29, but the Braves still fought back.Blair pic

The third quarter consisted of some sloppy plays and turnovers from both teams, but the scoring continued. After quick layups from Chris Giron and a three pointer from William Trinidad, the Braves were starting to gain momentum.

Baldwin Park was able to cut the lead to just ten points, but after more threes from Blair and turnovers from Baldwin Park, the clock expired and Blair won 75-65.

“As long as we keep moving in the same positive direction, I think we’re going to be okay. We’re looking to win league,” said Coach Anguiano.
