Boys’ Soccer: Wins Against the Vikings

BALDWIN PARK, CA — Baldwin Park’s Boys’ Varsity Soccer team beat the Northview Vikings in a close match 2-1 in the evening of December 10, 2015. With almost a disheartening start, the Vikings made the first goal eight minutes into the game through a free kick. The goal was followed by many close calls for the Vikings when the Braves sought to even out the score.

Jason Cabrera led a fierce offensive play during the first twenty minutes of the game. Later, Jose Acosta came close to scoring when his shot barely skid by the goal posts.

After halftime, the Braves were in danger of falling behind another point when the Vikings had two more chances with corner kicks that ultimately failed to become goals. Seventeen minutes after halftime, the Vikings once again came extremely close to earning two more points but were deterred by BP goalkeeper Luis Morales. Both shots were blocked by Morales before bouncing off the goal posts.

Nine minutes later, the Braves began to increasingly pressure the Vikings and played with a vigor absent in the previous half of the match. The first goal for the Braves was made by Marco Villegas. Pumped by finally evening out the score, the Braves continued to play aggressively and a second goal was soon made by Luis Villa. Villa’s goal was made not long before the game ended and BP’s Boys’ Varsity Soccer took the match.

Jason Cabrera expressed his happiness with the performance of the team this week. “For the first half, we were a bit sluggish, but I’m very happy with the fact that we came back second half from trailing and won the game.”
