It’s My First Pandemic!

As social distancing continues, more and more people are looking for ways to keep themselves busy. People are forced to be quarantined due to COVID-19 and until that quarantine is over, there are several things people can do to keep themselves distracted.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Coronavirus is spread from person to person and even though this new virus has been detected, there is no treatment for it yet. COVID-19 ranges from being anti symptomatic to severe illness. The best way to slow and hopefully stop the spread is by practicing social distancing.

Apart from Netflix binge watching, a well known activity to pass time, people have been busy with music. One BPHS student, Natalia Aguirre, has been practicing her guitar. Even though her in-person classes were canceled, she is able to still take these classes through Zoom. Nancy Guerrero, another BPHS student, has been practicing a new found instrument, her kalimba. She says, “I have a lot of free time so I’ve been learning some songs.”

Other people are taking advantage of this season by doing their spring cleaning. This can include organizing your closet and choosing what clothes to keep, sell, or donate or even rearranging your room. ASB vice president Maria Alvarez said “I started cleaning out my entire room, reorganizing everything.”

With this free time people have also taken the time to workout. There are many resources available to people to help them in this process. Free workout apps are available like Nike Training Club and 30 Day Fitness. YouTube is another great free resource with fitness gurus like Chloe Ting, Pamela Reif, and MadFit.

Even with this free time, students still have class and homework to focus on. BPHS scholar Paulina Frausto has been dedicating time to her schoolwork. She “worked on the yearbook a lot and recently started working on a self portrait for the AP 2d portfolio.”

There are many options for people to distract themselves from what is happening but it is important to be updated on the news. People need to understand what precautions to take, if there are cases in their city, and who is at risk by using sources like the CDC, CNN, and the New York Times.

Just share it.
