Thrifty Ice Cream Gone?

Many people have been wondering what will happen to their childhood love of Thrifty Ice Cream after Walgreens announced that they would be buying Rite Aid. Walgreens bought all Rite Aid stores for $9.41 billion  and announced it October 27. After this acquisition, Walgreens will have about 18,000 stores around the world.

Thrifty Ice Cream was first sold in the 1930’s at Thrifty Drug Stores. After 60 years of business Rite Aid bought Thrifty Drug stores and decided to continue selling their well-loved ice cream. Now, Thrifty Ice Cream’s fate is in Walgreens hands and it is not so certain. A Walgreens spokesman said, “Working together decisions will be made over time regarding the integration of the two companies.”

Now Thrifty Ice Cream enthusiasts are left in limbo, wondering if this long-held delicious tradition will cease to exist in our well-loved drug stores.

Just share it.
