Looking for an action packed adventure that’s a sure bet to be a thrill? Then race on over to the closest theater you can find to watch The Fate of the Furious. On a romantic date and trying to set the mood? Maybe save this movie for another time.

On April 14, 2017, the latest installment of the Fast and Furious franchise was a big hit at the theaters, bringing in $531,986,705 during the first week it was released in the US and the UK.

Don’t fret, no spoilers. However, there’s still the usual family drama, with the addition of life-threatening situations that always seem to follow the Torretos. The only difference between this film and all of the others in the franchise is the feature of cyber-terrorism, which is run by a hacker called Cypher (a dreadlocked Charlize Theron). She provides Dominic with an ultimatum to stay by his family’s side, “family is my code,” or join her forces for an undisclosed reason.

The Fast and Furious franchise has been speeding as fast as it can from any logical sense. In these movies, gravity doesn’t seem to exist, nor the laws of physics. However, the thing with these films is that the more ridiculous and unrealistic they get, the more fun they are to watch in theaters.

Chances don’t exist, thus there being no reason to push the limit. This film even features Cypher sending a mass of remote controlled cars onto the streets of Manhattan.

Remember the point about there being absolutely no logic in this film? The fact that there were luxurious, foreign sports cars trying to outrun a submarine across a frozen lake makes you wonder why they don’t hold a world record or something. Here is some context. The team was required to storm a submarine base in the middle of a frozen Siberia. However, there must be better ways of approaching such a challenge than climbing using exotic sports cars.

I also wanted to make a comment about the astounding work that casting did. How is it that they’ve been able to find so many bald actors- Jason Statham, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson – that are so well oiled?

Overall, I give the film a 4.5/5, with 5 stars for how much fun I had while watching, and 0.5 taken off for the lack of plot development.
