On Tuesday, Baldwin Park’s water polo team triumphed over Rancho Alamitos with a score of 9-8 in their wildcard game.
The whole game was very intense. In the first quarter, Ricardo De Luna, who scored two goals, and Anthony Munoz, who scored once, had both put points on the scoreboard. They ended the first period leading with a score of 3-2.
The Rancho Alamitos’ defense and the Braves offense seemed to cancel each other out, as the Braves kept attacking but simply could not score. Rancho scored twice before De’Unta Ferguson scored on a hookshot at the end of the second.
The momentum moved onto Ranchos side during the third, where they were able to score three goals and come up 7-6. However, the Braves were ready to complete the game in the fourth quarter.
Baldwin Park scored first, tying the score 7-7, but with 2:55 left in the game, Rancho scored yet again. After a hard push onto Rancho’s side, Baldwin Park scored, again tying the game.
With only 34 seconds left in the game, Ferguson scored, with a huge sigh of relief from the crowd. A time out by Rancho kept them in the game a little longer, but after a save from Jacob Robles at the last second, the Braves beat Rancho Alamitos with a score of 9-8.
The Braves take on San Dimas on Thursday at 3:30 at Wilson High School in the first round of CIF.
