On Tuesday, March 6, the Baldwin Park Braves took on the Sierra Vista Dons on the BP courts. The Braves defeated the Dons with a whopping score of 15-6.
Kevin Chua expressed, “We’ve been working really hard and it is nice to see it pay off.”
The first match played by the first mixed doubles, Kevin Chua and Michelle Del Toro, was won with scores of 21-17 and 21-5. They then beat the second mixed doubles by 21-15 and 21-8. The second mixed doubles from BP, Sharon Tran and Jimmy Chen, likewise won both of their matches with scores of 21-17 and 21-6. Similarly, the third mixed doubles, Tuyen Ho and Chris Lazo, won both their sets with scores of 21-17 and 21-9.
The boys doubles, Chen and Chua, did a great job with the matches they played, winning both. However, second boys doubles, didn’t do as well. In both matches, they were forced to play three sets in order to break the set tie, but ultimately lost both matches. First girls doubles, Shwe Nemyo and Tiffany Yu, was successful in beating the other team in both matches. Cindy Nguyen and Del Toro likewise did great and won their both sets.
First boy singles, Chris Lazo, had a harder time keeping up with his opponent and ended up losing with scores of 21-18 and 21-5. The second boys singles, Alan Le, was successful in winning one match against SV with a score of 21-16. The first girl singles, Ho, won both of her matches with impressive scores of 21-9 for both matches. Lena Doe, the second girls singles, was able to win both of her sets.
Former team member, Lisa Nguyen, who was in attendance at the game, expressed her excitement for the badminton team. She said, “It is so cool to see that they are doing so well in the season. I hope to see them be league champions like last year!”
Every set won proved to make up for the few that were lost. The BP Badminton team seems to be on their way to becoming league champions as they have gotten win after win.
