BALDWIN PARK, CA- On Tuesday, February 7, the Girls’ Varsity Basketball team played the San Dimas Saints on Braves’ territory with a final score of 48-33. It was Senior Night so all of the seniors on the team were acknowledged before the game.

In the first quarter, the Braves were off to a great start. They started off with strong passes and blocks which led them to a seven point lead by the end of the quarter, 12-5.

In the second quarter, San Dimas had a boost in motivation. The Saints were executing impressive layups, which were not seen in the first quarter. This brought the score up to 17-12, Saints in the lead. Jailene Rosas made an impressive steal which resulted in another two points. With two minutes left in the quarter, Samantha Villa made an easy two points as the Saints fouled, which led to an opportunity for one more. In the last three seconds of the quarter, San Dimas dog-piled on Brave Brianna Ibarra. The final score of the quarter was 21-17, San Dimas.

“We were trying hard to win since it was Senior Night,” commented Georgina Vazquez. “Even though we had a rough season I think that was the best game we’ve had because we played with our hearts and we worked hard.”

In the third quarter, the Saints began to score repeatedly on the Braves. Baldwin Park continued to put in effort but it was not enough to catch San Dimas. The Saints used great passing techniques and jumped high for balls which made it hard for the Braves to obtain possession. The resulting score was 38-20, Braves falling behind.

The Braves tried to catch up in the final quarter. With 7:21 on the clock, Vazquez scored a much needed three pointer. Eager to catch up, the Braves tried hard to shoot more baskets. Two minutes later, Joana Saldana scored two more points, which brought the score to 41-26. Ibarra scored another two and Villa scored an amazing three pointer at four minutes left in the game. The final score of the game was 48-33, Saints.

When asked if she was excited for next season, Vazquez replied, “I’m definitely excited for next season because its going to be our second year with new our coach and things will be different and we’ll learn from our mistakes to try to get better and prepare.”
